9/11 A Reminder for a Different Approach to Cross-Cultural Relationships
Author provides three key points for taking a creative approach to cultural conflict, cultural diversity, and for building cross-cultural bridges.

PRLog (Press Release) – Sep 11, 2009 – This September 11th, in remembrance of the attack on the World Trade Center, one author is urging people to be aware of how they think about cultural diversity in the present.
“In order to fight the war on terror and ease cultural tensions, we must learn how to think differently and be willing to take a creative approach to understanding cross-cultural relationships,” said Javy W. According to Galindo, this can be accomplished if we keep the following three points in mind.
1. The first is that all cultures have their own unique framework for understanding the world. When we neglect this fact we can become angered or threatened because we interpret the behavior and words of others within the wrong cultural context.
2. Human beings have a biological tendency to feel uneasy when interacting with unfamiliar stimuli — such as unfamiliar people with unfamiliar customs. Galindo asserts that this was an evolutionary trait that kept our primitive ancestors alive in the wild, but is now the cause of much unnecessary strife in the modern world.
3. Lastly, when we are under stress we can get stuck to our initial perceptions and wind up relying on our primitive survival mechanisms. The result is that we over generalize and can become enslaved by our emotions.
“Fortunately we have the brain capacity to take a step back, relax, and realize what is going on when we feel these tensions,” says Galindo. “We don’t have to rely on habitual reactions.”
He also believes it would help to appreciate cultural diversity as a key component to creativity, innovation, and progress. “What I have found in my research of the creative process and creative thinking is that creative ideas most easily arise at the intersection of diverse ideas. The simplist way of finding this intersection is by collaborating with people having differing perspectives.”
